Background
This is a research-grade biosimilar of cetrelimab, supplied as an unconjugated, non-therapeutic analog of the originator anti-PD-1 antibody for research use only. It is not a clinical drug. The molecule is built around the same target as the originator, human PD-1 (PDCD1), and is provided as a human IgG4-kappa immunoglobulin, matching the isotype of the reference antibody. Cetrelimab is a checkpoint inhibitor developed to block PD-1 engagement by its ligands PD-L1 and PD-L2, thereby relieving inhibitory signaling on T cells. As a biosimilar reagent, this product is intended to reproduce the target-binding behavior of the originator for functional and comparative studies rather than for dosing patients. It is offered at research grade with low endotoxin, and is suitable as a binding, blocking, or reference standard in assays that interrogate the PD-1/PD-L1 axis. Because it reproduces a human IgG4 framework, it is well suited to human-target in-vitro systems, isotype-matched comparisons, and characterization work supporting antibody engineering and immuno-oncology research programs. PD-1 (programmed cell death protein 1, gene PDCD1; UniProt Q15116) is an inhibitory immune checkpoint receptor expressed on activated T cells, B cells, NK cells, and other immune subsets. Engagement of PD-1 by its ligands PD-L1 and PD-L2 recruits phosphatases that dampen T-cell receptor and costimulatory signaling, promoting T-cell exhaustion and peripheral tolerance. Tumors and chronically infected tissues co-opt this pathway to suppress effector responses. Blocking PD-1 prevents ligand engagement, restoring proliferation, cytokine production, and cytotoxic activity of exhausted or suppressed T cells. This axis is a central node in cancer immunotherapy, and antibodies against PD-1 are widely used to reactivate antitumor immunity. The receptor's biology makes it a key target for functional immuno-oncology studies of checkpoint blockade and T-cell reactivation.
