Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of the anti-EGFR antibody futuximab, produced as a research-grade reagent (human IgG1, kappa) for laboratory use only. It reproduces the antigen-binding specificity of the originator molecule directed against the human epidermal growth factor receptor, making it a convenient tool for studying EGFR engagement without the constraints of clinical material. Typical research applications include use as a defined positive control or benchmarking reagent in EGFR binding assays (ELISA, flow cytometry, SPR/BLI affinity work), as a capture or detection component in immunoassays, in ligand-blocking and receptor-neutralisation experiments, and as a scaffold for ADCC characterisation or antibody-drug-conjugate development workflows. It is supplied at research-grade purity with low endotoxin (typically <1 EU/mg, with ultra-low <0.5 EU/mg options), and is available in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities to support in-vitro assays, reagent standardisation, and preclinical model work. It is strictly for research use only and is not the clinical drug; it is not intended for human or veterinary use. EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor; ERBB1/HER1, UniProt P00533) is a single-pass transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinase of the ERBB family. Ligands such as EGF and TGF-alpha bind the extracellular domain, driving receptor homo- or heterodimerisation (including with HER2/HER3), trans-autophosphorylation of the cytoplasmic kinase domain, and activation of downstream RAS-RAF-MAPK, PI3K-AKT, and STAT signalling that promote proliferation, survival, and migration. EGFR is frequently dysregulated in epithelial cancers through overexpression, activating kinase-domain mutations, or gene amplification, and is a validated oncology target. Anti-EGFR antibodies typically bind domain III of the ectodomain, blocking ligand binding and dimerisation and promoting receptor internalisation, which underlies both their signalling-inhibitory and immune-effector (ADCC) mechanisms.
