Background
This product is a research-grade biosimilar of afasevikumab, supplied as an unconjugated, non-therapeutic analog of the originator antibody for research use only. It is built around the same molecular target, human interleukin-17A (IL-17A), and is provided in a human IgG1/kappa format matching the originator's isotype. Afasevikumab is an anti-IL-17A monoclonal antibody that neutralises the cytokine and was investigated as an immunomodulatory agent for IL-17-driven inflammatory conditions. As a biosimilar reagent, this material is intended to reproduce the binding and neutralising behaviour of the originator for laboratory characterisation rather than for clinical use. It is manufactured to research-grade standards with low endotoxin (typically less than 1 EU/mg), and is available in bulk quantities suitable for functional and comparative studies. Because IL-17A is a human target, this antibody is most commonly deployed in in-vitro and cell-based assay systems. It serves as a reference or benchmark tool for teams studying IL-17A biology, antibody-target interactions, and cytokine neutralisation. This is not a clinical drug product.
Interleukin-17A (IL-17A, UniProt Q16552) is a proinflammatory cytokine and the signature effector of T-helper 17 (Th17) cells, though it is also produced by gamma-delta T cells, innate lymphoid cells, and other populations. It signals as a disulfide-linked homodimer, or as an IL-17A/IL-17F heterodimer, through the heteromeric IL-17RA/IL-17RC receptor complex, engaging Act1 and TRAF adaptors to activate NF-kB and MAPK pathways. This drives expression of chemokines, antimicrobial peptides, and inflammatory mediators, recruiting and activating neutrophils. Physiologically IL-17A supports mucosal and epithelial barrier defence against bacterial and fungal pathogens. When dysregulated, IL-17A contributes to chronic inflammatory and autoimmune disease, making it a well-established therapeutic and research target. Neutralising the IL-17A axis is a validated strategy for interrogating Th17-driven inflammation.
