Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of ocaratuzumab, supplied for research use only. Ocaratuzumab is an Fc-engineered humanized IgG1 kappa monoclonal antibody directed against CD20 (encoded by MS4A1), originally developed with enhanced binding affinity and an engineered Fc region intended to potentiate antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) relative to first-generation anti-CD20 agents. The research-grade biosimilar reproduces the antigen-binding specificity of the originator, giving investigators a defined, reproducible anti-CD20 reagent for building assays and controls rather than for any clinical or in-vivo human application. It is useful as a benchmarking tool in comparative binding and effector-function studies, as a positive control alongside other anti-CD20 molecules, for characterizing CD20-expressing cell lines and primary B cells, and as a starting point in ADCC or antibody-drug-conjugate development workflows. The material is offered at research grade with low endotoxin (typically under 1 EU/mg, with ultra-low-endotoxin options under 0.5 EU/mg) and can be provided in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities. It is not the clinical drug and is not intended for human or veterinary use. CD20, the product of the MS4A1 gene (UniProt P11836), is a roughly 33-37 kDa non-glycosylated membrane phosphoprotein and a member of the membrane-spanning 4-domains subfamily A. It adopts a four-transmembrane-domain topology with intracellular N- and C-termini and two extracellular loops, the larger of which carries the epitopes recognized by therapeutic anti-CD20 antibodies. CD20 is expressed across most stages of B-cell development, from late pro-B cells through mature and memory B cells, but is absent on early pro-B cells and on terminally differentiated plasma cells. Functionally it is implicated in regulating transmembrane calcium flux, organization of B-cell receptor signaling elements, and control of B-cell activation and proliferation. Because CD20 is highly and selectively expressed on B cells and is not readily internalized or shed after antibody binding, it is a durable surface target for antibody-mediated B-cell depletion and a widely used B-lineage marker.
