Background
This product is a research-grade biosimilar of blontuvetmab, supplied as an unconjugated, non-therapeutic analog intended for research use only. It is built around the CD20 (MS4A1) target rather than being defined by a hybridoma clone, and is manufactured to in-vivo research standards: low endotoxin (research grade <1 EU/mg, ultra-low <0.5 EU/mg) and available at bulk mg-to-gram scale for functional and comparability studies. Blontuvetmab itself is a caninized anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody originally developed for B-cell malignancies, so investigators should confirm the reactive-species intent for their application before use. Because it reproduces the binding characteristics of the originator without any therapeutic labeling, this reagent is well suited to in-vitro and functional work such as CD20 binding assays, epitope and comparability testing, flow-cytometry staining of B cells, complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC) and antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) assays, and as an isotype-matched binding control. It is not a clinical drug and must not be used diagnostically or therapeutically. Note that the target/species metadata on this card should be verified against the intended CD20 ortholog (see flag). CD20, encoded by MS4A1 (membrane-spanning 4-domains subfamily A member 1), is a four-transmembrane phosphoprotein expressed on the surface of B lymphocytes from the late pre-B stage through mature B cells, but absent on pro-B cells and terminally differentiated plasma cells. It is not shed or internalised appreciably and is not present in soluble form, which makes it a durable, cell-restricted surface marker. CD20 organises within the plasma membrane as a store-operated calcium channel component and clusters into lipid rafts, contributing to B-cell activation, proliferation, and calcium flux. Its restricted expression and stable surface localisation underpin its long-standing use as an anti-CD20 antibody target for B-cell depletion in oncology and autoimmunity. CD20 is well conserved across mammals; anti-CD20 antibodies are frequently species- or ortholog-specific, so the exact CD20 ortholog recognised must be confirmed for any given reagent.
