Background
This product is a research-grade biosimilar of arcitumomab, supplied as an unconjugated, non-therapeutic analog of the originator molecule for research use only. Arcitumomab is the Fab' fragment derived from the murine anti-CEA monoclonal antibody IMMU-4; in its original clinical form it was radiolabeled with technetium-99m and used for immunoscintigraphic imaging of tumors expressing carcinoembryonic antigen. This biosimilar is built around the same molecular target, CEACAM5 (CEA, UniProt P06731), and is intended for in-vitro and functional characterization rather than diagnostic or clinical use. As a Fab' fragment it lacks the Fc region, so it engages antigen monovalently without Fc-mediated effector functions, making it a useful tool for binding, blocking, and antigen-detection studies where Fc interactions are undesirable. It is offered at research scale with defined quality attributes suitable for comparator and reference work. Because it is a research reagent and not the radiolabeled diagnostic conjugate, users should validate performance in their own assay systems. Content is provided for ichorbio to review and adapt. The target is carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), formally CEACAM5, a heavily glycosylated GPI-anchored cell-surface glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily and CEACAM family. CEACAM5 mediates homotypic and heterotypic cell-cell adhesion and is normally expressed on the apical surface of gastrointestinal epithelium. It is markedly overexpressed and aberrantly distributed in many epithelial carcinomas, notably colorectal, gastric, pancreatic, lung, and breast cancers, and is shed into serum, where it serves as a long-standing tumor marker. Its restricted normal expression combined with high tumor-associated levels makes it an attractive target for imaging and antibody-based approaches. Arcitumomab exploits this by binding CEA on tumor cells, which historically enabled radioimmunodetection of CEA-positive lesions. As a research target, CEACAM5 supports studies of tumor adhesion, epithelial biology, biomarker detection, and antibody-antigen engagement.
