Background
This product is a research-grade biosimilar of abelacimab, supplied as an unconjugated, non-therapeutic analog of the originator antibody for laboratory use only. It is built to reproduce the antigen-binding specificity of abelacimab against human coagulation factor XI (F11), enabling investigators to study the biology and pharmacology of factor XI inhibition without sourcing clinical drug product. The molecule is a fully human IgG1 (lambda light chain) that recognises the target described on this card. As a biosimilar analog it is intended for functional and in-vitro applications, such as binding characterisation, target engagement assays, neutralisation of factor XI/XIa enzymatic activity, and as a reference or control reagent alongside other anti-factor XI tools. It is not formulated, tested, or intended for use in humans and carries no therapeutic claims. Material is offered as research grade with low endotoxin and is available in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities to support assay development, screening cascades, and comparator studies. Because abelacimab targets a human protein, this reagent is primarily suited to human-antigen in-vitro and ex-vivo work rather than routine rodent in-vivo dosing.
Coagulation factor XI (F11, UniProt P03951) is a plasma zymogen of the intrinsic coagulation pathway. It circulates as a disulphide-linked homodimer and is converted to the active protease factor XIa by factor XIIa, thrombin, or through autoactivation. Factor XIa in turn activates factor IX, amplifying thrombin generation. Factor XI sits at a point where thrombosis and haemostasis can be partly uncoupled: it contributes substantially to pathological clot propagation while playing a more limited role in normal haemostatic plug formation, which is why it has attracted interest as a target for hemostasis-sparing anticoagulation. Abelacimab binds the catalytic domain of factor XI and locks the molecule in its inactive zymogen conformation, blocking activation by upstream proteases and inhibiting any factor XIa already formed. This dual action against both the zymogen and the active enzyme underlies its durable, sustained effect on markers such as activated partial thromboplastin time.
