Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of ustekinumab, produced as a human IgG1 kappa monoclonal antibody and offered strictly for research use only. It is not the clinical drug and is not intended for human or veterinary use. The molecule is built around the interleukin-12/interleukin-23 shared p40 subunit, the antigen ustekinumab recognizes, making it a convenient tool for laboratory work that requires a well-characterized anti-p40 binder. Typical research applications include use as a positive or isotype-matched control in binding and neutralization assays, as a reference reagent when developing or benchmarking other anti-IL-12/IL-23 antibodies, and as a capture or detection reagent in cytokine pathway studies. It is supplied at research grade with low endotoxin (<1 EU/mg; ultra-low <0.5 EU/mg options), and is available in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities suitable for in-vitro assay development and preclinical experimental workflows. Because it is unconjugated, users can pair it with their own labels, secondary reagents, or downstream conjugation chemistries as needed.
Interleukin-12 and interleukin-23 are heterodimeric pro-inflammatory cytokines that share a common p40 subunit (encoded by IL12B, UniProt P29460). IL-12 is p40 paired with p35 (IL12A, P29459) and signals through the IL-12 receptor complex to drive Th1 differentiation and interferon-gamma production. IL-23 is p40 paired with p19 (IL23A) and signals via IL-23R to sustain and expand Th17 cells and the production of IL-17, IL-22, and other effectors. Both cytokines are produced largely by activated antigen-presenting cells and are central to host defense against intracellular pathogens and to the pathogenesis of several immune-mediated inflammatory conditions. By targeting the shared p40 subunit, an anti-p40 antibody such as ustekinumab can block both IL-12 and IL-23 signaling simultaneously, distinguishing it from agents that target only the IL-23-specific p19 subunit.
Other Names
Interleukin-12, Interleukin-23
Specificity
