Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of omoprubart, an anti-complement C5 antibody, supplied strictly for research use only and not for human or veterinary use. It is built around the human complement component C5 target (UniProt P01031) and is provided as an IgG2/IgG4-derived kappa molecule, unconjugated and endotoxin-controlled (research grade <1 EU/mg; ultra-low <0.5 EU/mg options), available in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities. The analog is useful as a research tool for studying C5-directed complement inhibition in controlled settings: as a positive/reference binder in ligand-binding and epitope-mapping assays, as a neutralizing reagent to probe C5 cleavage and downstream terminal-pathway activity in vitro, as an isotype-matched comparator or benchmarking control against other complement inhibitors, and as a starting material for assay development, engineering workflows, and preclinical characterization. Because it reproduces the target-binding behavior of the originator without therapeutic intent, it supports reproducible, cost-controlled experiments where large or standardized lots are needed. It is not the clinical drug.
Complement component C5 (UniProt P01031) is a central effector of the terminal complement pathway. It is a large plasma glycoprotein composed of disulfide-linked alpha and beta chains, produced mainly by hepatocytes. Upon activation of the classical, lectin, or alternative pathways, C5 convertases cleave C5 into the potent anaphylatoxin C5a and the larger fragment C5b. C5a is a strong chemoattractant and pro-inflammatory mediator acting through C5aR1/C5aR2, driving neutrophil recruitment, degranulation, and vascular changes. C5b nucleates assembly of the membrane attack complex (C5b-9), which forms lytic pores in target membranes. Because C5 sits at the convergence point of all three pathways, its cleavage is a key regulatory node, and pharmacological inhibition of C5 blocks both C5a generation and terminal MAC formation while sparing upstream opsonization (C3b).
