Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of lokivetmab, supplied strictly for research use only and not for human or veterinary use. Lokivetmab is a caninized anti-IL-31 monoclonal antibody used clinically to control pruritus in dogs; this research-grade analog is engineered around the same target, canine IL-31, and is presented as a canine IgG2-kappa molecule. It is intended as a laboratory reagent for functional characterization of IL-31 biology and antibody behavior rather than for treating animals. Typical research applications include use as a positive or reference control in binding, blocking, and neutralization assays, as a tool for developing and benchmarking in-house anti-IL-31 antibodies, and as a defined input for in-vitro and preclinical model work. The material is offered at low endotoxin levels (research grade below 1 EU/mg, with an ultra-low option below 0.5 EU/mg) and can be provided in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities to support assay development, screening campaigns, and scale-up. It is not the clinical drug and carries no therapeutic claims.
Interleukin-31 (IL-31) is a class of helical cytokine in the IL-6/gp130 family, produced mainly by activated Th2-skewed CD4+ T cells and, to a lesser degree, by mast cells and other immune cells. It signals through a heterodimeric receptor composed of IL-31 receptor alpha (IL-31RA) and oncostatin M receptor beta (OSMRbeta), triggering JAK/STAT (notably STAT3), PI3K/AKT, and MAPK pathways. IL-31 receptors are expressed on sensory neurons in dorsal root ganglia, keratinocytes, and epithelial cells, positioning IL-31 as a key link between the immune system and the nervous system. In dogs and other species it is a principal driver of pruritus (itch) and contributes to skin barrier changes and inflammation in atopic dermatitis. Because IL-31 directly stimulates itch-associated neurons, neutralizing it dampens the itch signal, which is the rationale behind anti-IL-31 antibody approaches.
