Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of indatuximab, the anti-CD138 (syndecan-1/SDC1) antibody that forms the targeting moiety of the originator antibody-drug conjugate indatuximab ravtansine. It is supplied as a research-grade biosimilar built around the SDC1 target and is intended strictly for research use only; it is not the clinical drug and is not for human or veterinary use. Because it is provided unconjugated (no maytansinoid payload), it is well suited to functional studies of the antibody arm itself: antigen-binding characterization, epitope and affinity work, flow cytometry and immunostaining of CD138-expressing cells, and as a targeting scaffold for ADC and immunoconjugate development. It also serves as an isotype-matched, target-specific positive control in assays alongside irrelevant IgG4 controls. Manufactured recombinantly with low endotoxin (research grade <1 EU/mg; ultra-low <0.5 EU/mg options) and available in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities, it supports reproducible in-vitro and preclinical experimentation and standard-curve/reference applications where lot consistency matters. SDC1 (syndecan-1, CD138; UniProt P18827) is a type I transmembrane heparan sulfate proteoglycan of the syndecan family. Its extracellular core protein carries glycosaminoglycan (chiefly heparan sulfate) side chains, followed by a single transmembrane domain and a short cytoplasmic tail. Through these GAG chains it binds growth factors, chemokines, extracellular matrix components, and enzymes, acting as a co-receptor that concentrates ligands and modulates signaling, cell adhesion, and matrix organization. In the hematopoietic compartment CD138 is a hallmark marker of mature plasma cells and is strongly expressed by malignant plasma cells in multiple myeloma, making it a widely used identification antigen. The ectodomain can be proteolytically shed (for example by heparanase-induced pathways), releasing a soluble form that influences the tumor microenvironment, angiogenesis, and cell invasion. SDC1 is also expressed on many epithelial and carcinoma cells.
