Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of burfiralimab (hzVSF-v13), a human IgG4-kappa antibody directed against vimentin (VIM). It is manufactured for research use only and is not the clinical drug; it is not intended for human or veterinary use. Built around the vimentin target, it reproduces the binding specificity of the originator molecule while being supplied in formats suited to laboratory work: bulk quantities from milligram to gram scale, low-endotoxin grades (research grade <1 EU/mg; ultra-low <0.5 EU/mg), and in-vivo-standard preparations for preclinical models. Because it is delivered as a plain, unconjugated IgG4, it is useful as a well-defined reagent for binding and neutralisation assays, as a positive or isotype-matched comparator in antibody characterisation, as a benchmark in biosimilarity and developability studies, and as a starting point for conjugate or reporter development. Researchers studying vimentin biology, antiviral mechanisms, or inflammatory signalling can use it to interrogate target engagement in controlled, reproducible experimental systems without the constraints of clinical material. Vimentin (VIM, UniProt P08670) is a 57 kDa type III intermediate filament protein and a canonical marker of mesenchymal cells. Its filaments assemble from coiled-coil dimers into a cytoplasmic network that supports cell shape, organelle positioning, and mechanical integrity. Beyond structural roles, vimentin is a key regulator of the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, cell migration, and adhesion, and is frequently upregulated in invasive and metastatic cancers. Although classically intracellular, vimentin can also be secreted or displayed on the surface of activated, stressed, and virus-infected cells, where extracellular/cell-surface vimentin participates in innate immune signalling, leukocyte interactions, and viral entry. This surface-exposed pool is the accessible epitope relevant to antibody engagement. Vimentin's involvement in inflammation and infection underlies interest in it as a therapeutic target.
