Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of the anti-IL-13 antibody tralokinumab, supplied strictly for research use only. It is built around the same molecular target, human interleukin-13 (IL-13, UniProt P35225), and is expressed as a full-length human IgG4 (S228P-stabilised) kappa immunoglobulin so that its binding behaviour and Fc characteristics mirror the originator format. It is not the clinical drug and is not intended for human or veterinary use. The analog is useful for research because it provides a well-defined, target-specific reagent for interrogating IL-13 biology in vitro and in cell-based systems: it can serve as a neutralising tool to block IL-13 signalling, as an isotype-matched positive control in binding and blocking assays, as a benchmark reference for characterising other anti-IL-13 candidates, and as a starting scaffold for ADC or engineering workflows. It is offered at research-grade low endotoxin (<1 EU/mg), with ultra-low-endotoxin (<0.5 EU/mg) and in-vivo-standard formats available, and in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities to support screening, assay development, and preclinical model work.
Interleukin-13 (IL-13) is a type 2 (Th2) cytokine central to allergic inflammation, produced by activated T cells, mast cells, basophils, eosinophils, and innate lymphoid cells. It signals through a receptor system it shares in part with IL-4: IL-13 binds the IL-13Ra1 chain, which pairs with IL-4Ra to form the type II receptor and drive STAT6-dependent transcription. A second receptor, IL-13Ra2, binds IL-13 with high affinity and largely acts as a decoy/regulatory sink. Downstream effects include IgE class switching, goblet-cell hyperplasia and mucus production, smooth-muscle hyperresponsiveness, eosinophil recruitment, and fibrosis. IL-13 is a validated driver of asthma and atopic dermatitis, which is why blocking it is therapeutically important. Notably, tralokinumab binds IL-13 in a way that prevents its interaction with both IL-13Ra1 and IL-13Ra2, distinguishing its mechanism from receptor-chain-directed approaches.
