Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of the anti-IL-5 antibody mepolizumab, supplied for research use only. It is a human IgG1-kappa built around the interleukin-5 (IL-5) target and is intended as a laboratory reagent, not the clinical drug, and not for human or veterinary use. It is useful as a well-defined anti-IL-5 tool for in-vitro and preclinical work: as a positive control or benchmarking reference in binding and neutralisation assays, as a capture or detection reagent for IL-5, for epitope and competition studies, and as a scaffold or comparator in antibody-engineering and ADC/ADCC assay development. Being an IgG1 isotype, it can also serve in Fc-effector-function characterisation. The material is offered at research grade with low endotoxin (typically <1 EU/mg, with ultra-low <0.5 EU/mg options) and in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities, which supports assay standardisation, reproducibility across large screens, and use as an in-vivo-standard where appropriate. It provides a consistent, characterised reagent for teams studying eosinophil biology and type-2 inflammation. Interleukin-5 (IL-5) is a secreted homodimeric cytokine of the beta-common (betac) cytokine family, produced mainly by type-2 helper T cells, group-2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s), and mast cells. It signals through a heterodimeric receptor comprising the IL-5-specific alpha chain (IL5RA/CD125) paired with the shared betac subunit (CSF2RB), driving JAK/STAT5, Ras-MAPK, and PI3K signalling. IL-5 is the principal regulator of eosinophil differentiation, maturation, survival, recruitment, and activation, and also contributes to B-cell responses in some contexts. It is a central driver of eosinophilic type-2 inflammation, making it a key node in the biology of asthma, eosinophilic esophagitis, hypereosinophilic syndromes, and related disorders. Neutralising IL-5 reduces circulating and tissue eosinophils, which underlies the rationale for anti-IL-5 antibody approaches.
