Background
This product is a research-grade biosimilar of depemokimab: an unconjugated, non-therapeutic analog built to recapitulate the antigen-binding specificity of the originator anti-IL-5 monoclonal antibody, supplied for research use only. It is a human IgG1-kappa directed against human interleukin-5 (IL-5), the same cytokine target as the reference molecule. It is not the clinical drug and is not intended for therapeutic or diagnostic use in humans; it is intended as a well-defined tool for characterizing IL-5 biology and for benchmarking IL-5-directed binders in vitro. Depemokimab is notable as an ultra-long-acting anti-IL-5 antibody engineered for extended target neutralization, and this analog is useful where a defined, reproducible anti-IL-5 reagent is needed. As an ichor.bio research biosimilar it is offered at low endotoxin with bulk milligram-to-gram availability, supporting applications such as ligand-binding assays, neutralization studies, and use as a reference or control antibody. Because it targets a human cytokine, typical mouse in-vivo dosing paradigms generally do not apply. Content is provided for ichor.bio to review.
Interleukin-5 (IL-5; UniProt P05113, gene IL5) is a homodimeric cytokine produced chiefly by Th2 lymphocytes, group 2 innate lymphoid cells, and mast cells. It is the principal regulator of eosinophil biology, driving eosinophil differentiation, maturation, survival, activation, and recruitment, and it also contributes to basophil function and B-cell responses. IL-5 signals through a receptor complex composed of the IL-5-specific alpha chain (IL5RA) and the shared common beta chain (CSF2RB), activating JAK/STAT, Ras/MAPK, and PI3K pathways. Because IL-5 is central to eosinophil-mediated inflammation, it is a validated target in eosinophilic diseases such as severe eosinophilic asthma. Antibodies that neutralize IL-5, like the depemokimab originator, block its interaction with IL5RA and thereby suppress eosinophil expansion and survival, making IL-5 a key node for studying type 2 immunity.
