ICH5283 is a research-grade biosimilar of varokibart, supplied by ichor.bio as an unconjugated, non-therapeutic analog of the originator anti-IL-5 antibody for research use only. It is not the clinical drug and is not intended for any therapeutic or diagnostic application in humans or animals. Varokibart is a human IgG4-lambda antibody directed against interleukin-5 (IL-5); this biosimilar is built around that target and reproduces the originator's antigen specificity to support in-vitro and functional studies. Because it is delivered in an unconjugated format with no fluorophore, enzyme, or other label attached, it is well suited to binding assays, neutralization work, and use as a matched reference or control alongside other IL-5-directed reagents. The material is manufactured to research-grade standards with low endotoxin (<1 EU/mg), and is available in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities for larger or repeated experiments. Interleukin-5 (IL-5) is a homodimeric cytokine produced mainly by type 2 helper T cells, type 2 innate lymphoid cells, and mast cells. It is the principal regulator of eosinophil biology, driving eosinophil differentiation, maturation, and release from bone marrow, and promoting their survival, activation, and recruitment to tissues. IL-5 signals through a receptor composed of a ligand-specific alpha chain (IL5RA) and the shared beta common chain used by IL-3 and GM-CSF, activating JAK/STAT and downstream pathways. IL-5 also contributes to B-cell responses in some settings. Because of its central role in eosinophil-driven inflammation, IL-5 is a validated target in eosinophilic asthma and related type 2 inflammatory conditions, and antibodies that neutralize IL-5 or block its receptor reduce circulating and tissue eosinophils. This biosimilar is directed against the IL-5 cytokine itself.
