Background
This is a research-grade biosimilar of emapalumab: an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant human IgG1 kappa antibody engineered around the same interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) target as the originator drug. It is intended strictly for research use only and is not the clinical product; it is not for human or veterinary use. The molecule reproduces the antigen-binding specificity of the originator, making it a useful tool for laboratory studies of IFN-gamma-driven biology, for benchmarking anti-IFN-gamma reagents, and as a positive control in binding, blocking, and neutralisation assays. Because it is supplied unconjugated, it can be paired with downstream labelling or secondary-detection workflows and used in antibody-engineering and ADC/bispecific development pipelines. It is offered at low endotoxin (research grade below 1 EU/mg; ultra-low grade below 0.5 EU/mg) and in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities, supporting in-vitro assay development, reagent standardisation, and larger preclinical study designs where consistent, well-characterised material is needed. Interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma; UniProt P01579) is the sole type II interferon, a homodimeric cytokine produced chiefly by activated T cells (Th1 CD4+ and CD8+) and natural killer cells. It signals through the heterodimeric IFN-gamma receptor (IFNGR1/IFNGR2), activating the JAK1/JAK2-STAT1 pathway and inducing transcription of interferon-stimulated genes. IFN-gamma is a central coordinator of macrophage activation, upregulating MHC class I and II expression, antigen presentation, and antimicrobial effector functions, and it polarises adaptive immunity toward Th1 responses. It is pivotal in host defence against intracellular pathogens and in tumour immunosurveillance. Dysregulated IFN-gamma drives hyperinflammatory states; excess IFN-gamma is a key mediator in haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) and related macrophage-activation syndromes, which is the biology the originator antibody was developed to neutralise.
