Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of olokizumab, an anti-IL-6 antibody, supplied for research use only. It is built around the same human interleukin-6 (IL-6) target that the originator drug engages, and is provided as a human IgG4 (S228P-stabilized) kappa format for functional and biochemical studies. It is not the clinical drug and is not intended for human or veterinary use. Typical research applications include use as a defined anti-IL-6 binding reagent, as a positive control or benchmarking tool in cytokine-neutralization assays, as a capture or detection component in binding characterization, and as a reference molecule in ADCC/ADC or biosimilarity development workflows. The material is offered at research grade with low endotoxin (<1 EU/mg; ultra-low <0.5 EU/mg options) and is available in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities suitable for assay development, in-vitro model systems, and preclinical characterization. Because it is unconjugated, it can be paired flexibly with downstream detection or labeling chemistries. Investigators should validate lot performance in their own systems before use as a quantitative standard. Interleukin-6 (IL-6; UniProt P05231) is a pleiotropic cytokine secreted by macrophages, T cells, fibroblasts, and endothelial and other cells in response to infection, tissue injury, and inflammatory stimuli. It signals through a receptor complex comprising the IL-6-specific receptor (IL-6R/CD126) and the shared signal-transducing subunit gp130 (IL6ST/CD130), engaging JAK/STAT3, MAPK, and PI3K pathways via both classic (membrane IL-6R) and trans-signaling (soluble IL-6R) modes. IL-6 drives the hepatic acute-phase response (including C-reactive protein), B-cell differentiation and antibody production, T-cell responses including Th17 polarization, and hematopoiesis. Dysregulated IL-6 is implicated in rheumatoid arthritis, cytokine-release states, and other chronic inflammatory conditions, making the cytokine itself a validated intervention node. Notably, olokizumab neutralizes the IL-6 ligand directly, distinct from antibodies that block the receptor.
