Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of fulranumab, an anti-nerve growth factor (anti-NGF) antibody, produced as a human IgG2-kappa. It is supplied for research use only and is not the clinical drug, nor is it intended for human or veterinary use. Built around neutralization of human NGF, the analog is useful as a reference reagent and positive control in binding assays (ELISA, SPR/BLI affinity work), for competition studies against other anti-NGF reagents, and for probing NGF-TrkA/p75 signaling in cell-based systems where ligand blockade is desired. Because it reproduces the target specificity of the originator without therapeutic formulation, it supports method development, assay standardization, and preclinical in-vitro characterization such as neutralization of NGF-driven neurite outgrowth or downstream phosphorylation readouts. It is offered at research grade with low endotoxin (typically <1 EU/mg, with ultra-low <0.5 EU/mg options) and in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities suitable for screening campaigns, spike-in standards, and reproducible lot-controlled experiments. No clone identity is implied.
Nerve growth factor (NGF, UniProt P01138) is the prototypical neurotrophin, secreted as a precursor (proNGF) and processed to mature beta-NGF, which acts as a non-covalent homodimer. It signals through two receptors: the high-affinity receptor tyrosine kinase TrkA (NTRK1), which drives survival, differentiation, and axonal growth via PI3K/Akt, Ras/MAPK, and PLC-gamma pathways, and the low-affinity p75 neurotrophin receptor (NGFR), which can promote survival or, in the proNGF context, apoptosis. NGF is essential for the development and maintenance of sympathetic and sensory neurons and for basal forebrain cholinergic neurons. Beyond development, NGF is a key mediator of nociception and peripheral sensitization: it acts on TrkA-expressing nociceptors and mast cells, driving hyperalgesia and inflammatory and chronic pain. This pain biology underlies the therapeutic interest in NGF neutralization.
