Background
This product is a research-grade biosimilar of capromab, supplied as an unconjugated, non-therapeutic analog of the originator antibody for research use only. It is not the clinical imaging agent (capromab pendetide, historically formulated as an indium-111 radioconjugate) and carries no chelator, radiolabel, or other conjugate. The molecule reproduces the antigen-binding specificity of capromab, a murine-derived monoclonal directed against prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), the protein encoded by FOLH1 (UniProt Q04609), and is presented here as a human IgG1, kappa format. As a biosimilar it is built around the target rather than a defined hybridoma clone, so it is best characterized by its binding activity toward PSMA rather than by a clone designation. It is intended as a functional and in-vitro research tool: for binding assays, as a reference or benchmarking reagent, for assay development, and as a positive control in PSMA-directed antibody and detection workflows. It is low endotoxin and available at research scale. This material is for laboratory research only and is not intended for diagnostic, therapeutic, or human/animal clinical use.
FOLH1 encodes prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), also called folate hydrolase 1 or glutamate carboxypeptidase II, a type II integral membrane glycoprotein. It is a non-shed, cell-surface enzyme highly expressed on prostate epithelial cells and markedly upregulated in prostate cancer, making it a prominent marker and target for prostate-cancer imaging and therapy. PSMA has a large extracellular catalytic domain, a single transmembrane region, and a short intracellular tail; it hydrolyzes folate and N-acetyl-aspartyl-glutamate substrates and undergoes internalization upon ligand engagement. Notably, capromab recognizes an intracellular epitope of PSMA, so it preferentially binds cells whose membranes are permeabilized, apoptotic, or necrotic rather than intact viable cells; this contrasts with later antibodies (e.g., J591) that target the extracellular domain. PSMA is also expressed at lower levels in some non-prostate tissues and tumor neovasculature.
