Background
This product is a research-grade biosimilar of visugromab (development code CTL-002), supplied as an unconjugated, non-therapeutic analog built around the GDF15 target. It is a human IgG4-kappa molecule intended for research use only and is not a clinical drug. Visugromab is an investigational neutralizing antibody directed against GDF15 (growth differentiation factor 15), studied clinically as a monotherapy and in combination with anti-PD-1 checkpoint blockade in advanced, relapsed or refractory solid tumors, where high GDF15 in the tumor microenvironment is associated with immune evasion and cancer-associated cachexia. Because the antibody neutralizes soluble circulating GDF15, this reagent is well suited to functional and in-vitro work such as ligand-neutralization assays, blockade of GDF15-driven signaling, target-engagement and epitope studies, and as a defined isotype-matched comparator or positive control alongside other GDF15 tools. The material is manufactured to in-vivo research standards with low endotoxin and is offered in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities to support consistent, reproducible experiments across biology, characterization, and neutralization workflows. Lot-to-lot consistency supports longitudinal studies. GDF15 (growth differentiation factor 15; UniProt Q99988), also called MIC-1, NAG-1 or PLAB, is a distant, divergent member of the TGF-beta superfamily secreted as a disulfide-linked dimer. Circulating GDF15 rises during cellular stress, inflammation, aging, pregnancy, cardiometabolic disease and malignancy, making it a widely studied biomarker. Its principal characterized receptor is GFRAL (GDNF-family receptor alpha-like), whose expression is largely restricted to neurons of the area postrema and nucleus tractus solitarius in the hindbrain. GDF15 binding to GFRAL recruits the co-receptor RET, driving downstream AKT, ERK and PLC signaling that suppresses appetite and reduces body weight. In cancer, tumor-derived GDF15 contributes to cachexia and can dampen antitumor immunity, so neutralizing the ligand is being explored to restore checkpoint-inhibitor responsiveness and reverse wasting.
