Background
The ICH5724 Odulimomab Biosimilar (Research Grade) is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of the originator anti-CD11a antibody odulimomab, rebuilt around the human ITGAL (CD11a) target. It is supplied as an F(ab')2 fragment on a human IgG1 backbone and is intended strictly for research use only; it is not the clinical drug and is not for human or veterinary use. The molecule reproduces the antigen-binding specificity of the originator so laboratories can study CD11a/LFA-1 engagement, adhesion blockade, and integrin-dependent signaling without sourcing scarce or costly clinical material. Typical research applications include use as a specificity control or reference reagent, binding and epitope characterization, neutralization/adhesion assays, and as a comparator in biosimilarity or assay-development workflows. Because it is an F(ab')2 fragment, Fc-mediated effector functions such as ADCC and complement fixation are absent, which suits bivalent-binding and pure-blockade studies. It is manufactured to low-endotoxin research-grade specifications (typically <1 EU/mg, with ultra-low <0.5 EU/mg options) and is available in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities to support scale-up and repeat experiments. ITGAL encodes CD11a (integrin alpha-L), which pairs non-covalently with CD18 (integrin beta-2, ITGB2) to form LFA-1 (lymphocyte function-associated antigen 1, alpha-L/beta-2), a member of the beta-2 leukocyte integrin family. LFA-1 is expressed on essentially all leukocytes and binds intercellular adhesion molecules, principally ICAM-1 (CD54) and also ICAM-2 and ICAM-3. Through this interaction it mediates firm adhesion and arrest of leukocytes on endothelium during recruitment, transendothelial migration, and formation of the immunological synapse between T cells and antigen-presenting cells, thereby contributing to T-cell activation and co-stimulation. LFA-1 adhesiveness is dynamically regulated by inside-out signaling that shifts the integrin between low- and high-affinity conformations. Given these roles in immune trafficking and activation, CD11a/LFA-1 has been a target of interest in autoimmune and inflammatory conditions and transplant rejection.
