Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of nirsevimab, supplied for research use only and not for human or veterinary use. Nirsevimab is a human IgG1-kappa monoclonal antibody directed against the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) fusion (F) glycoprotein in its prefusion conformation; it also carries triple amino-acid substitutions in the Fc region that extend serum half-life. This research-grade analog reproduces the target-binding activity built around the RSV F protein and is intended for in-vitro and preclinical laboratory applications. Typical uses include serving as a positive control or reference antibody in binding, neutralisation, and epitope-competition assays, as a benchmark in the development and characterisation of anti-RSV F antibodies, and as a tool in studies of prefusion F antigen structure and stability. It is offered at research grade with low endotoxin (<1 EU/mg; ultra-low <0.5 EU/mg options), and is available in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities for assay standardisation and larger preclinical workflows. It is not the clinical drug and should not be used therapeutically. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is an enveloped, negative-sense single-stranded RNA virus of the Pneumoviridae family and a leading cause of lower respiratory tract infection in infants, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals. Entry into host cells is mediated by two surface glycoproteins: the attachment glycoprotein (G) and the fusion (F) glycoprotein. The F protein drives fusion of the viral envelope with the host cell membrane and undergoes an irreversible conformational change from a metastable prefusion state to a stable postfusion state. The prefusion conformation displays highly neutralisation-sensitive epitopes, notably antigenic site O (site Ø) at the apex, which is the target of the most potent neutralising antibodies. Because prefusion F elicits far stronger neutralising responses than postfusion F, it is the focus of RSV vaccine and monoclonal antibody development, making it a central antigen in RSV countermeasure research.
