Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of dovanvetmab, a felinized anti-IL-31 monoclonal antibody built around the feline interleukin-31 target, supplied for research use only. It is not the clinical veterinary drug and is not intended for feline, other animal, or human use; it is intended as a laboratory reagent for in-vitro and preclinical work. Presented as a feline IgG1-kappa immunoglobulin, it is useful as a defined binding and neutralization tool for interrogating IL-31 signaling, as a species-matched isotype/format reference, and as a positive control in ELISA, surface plasmon resonance, and cell-based reporter or receptor-binding assays. It is well suited to comparability and bioanalytical method development, epitope-competition studies, and as a benchmark analog when characterizing new anti-IL-31 candidates. Manufactured at research grade with low endotoxin (typically <1 EU/mg, with ultra-low <0.5 EU/mg options) and available in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities, it supports assay standardization, screening cascades, and preclinical model characterization without the constraints of clinical-grade sourcing.
Interleukin-31 (IL-31) is a four-helix-bundle cytokine of the gp130/IL-6 family, produced predominantly by activated T-helper-2 lymphocytes. It signals through a heterodimeric receptor composed of the IL-31 receptor alpha subunit (IL-31RA) paired with the oncostatin M receptor beta (OSMRbeta), engaging JAK/STAT (notably STAT3), PI3K/AKT, and MAPK pathways. IL-31 is a key driver of pruritus, acting on cutaneous sensory neurons and keratinocytes, and contributes to inflammatory and barrier changes in allergic and atopic skin disease. In cats, IL-31 has been directly linked to itch behavior and allergic dermatitis, making it a validated therapeutic and research target. Neutralizing IL-31 prevents receptor engagement and downstream STAT3 activation, dampening the itch signal. Its restricted expression and defined receptor make it a clean, mechanistically specific target for antibody characterization.
