Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of tovetumab, supplied strictly for research use. It is built as a human IgG2-kappa antibody directed against human platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFR alpha / PDGFRA, UniProt P16234), reproducing the target specificity of the originator molecule without being the clinical drug and without any conjugation. It is not intended for human or veterinary use. Because it recapitulates receptor binding, it is useful as a defined tool for interrogating PDGFR alpha signaling: as a binding and ligand-blocking reagent, an isotype-matched or receptor-specific control, a positive control in receptor-detection assays, and a starting reagent for ADCC or antibody-drug-conjugate development workflows. It is offered at research-grade low endotoxin (typically <1 EU/mg, with an ultra-low <0.5 EU/mg option), and in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities suitable for repeated in-vitro experiments, assay standardization, and preclinical model work. Lot-to-lot consistency and defined formulation make it appropriate for comparative and quantitative studies where a reproducible anti-PDGFR alpha reagent is required. PDGFR alpha (PDGFRA) is a type III receptor tyrosine kinase with five extracellular immunoglobulin-like domains, a single transmembrane segment, and a split intracellular kinase domain. It binds PDGF ligands (PDGF-AA, -AB, -BB, and -CC), which drives receptor dimerization, autophosphorylation, and recruitment of effectors including PI3K/AKT, RAS/MAPK, PLC-gamma, and STATs. Signaling regulates proliferation, survival, migration, and mesenchymal cell development, and is important in fibroblast, pericyte, and connective-tissue biology as well as gastrulation and organ development. Dysregulated PDGFRA activity, through activating mutations, gene amplification, or fusion events, contributes to gastrointestinal stromal tumors, gliomas, and certain eosinophilic disorders (FIP1L1-PDGFRA). It also mediates paracrine and autocrine loops in the tumor microenvironment. These features make PDGFR alpha a well-characterized target for receptor-blocking and signaling studies.
