Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of carlumab, supplied strictly for research use only. Carlumab (originally CNTO 888) is a fully human IgG1-kappa monoclonal antibody directed against the human chemokine CCL2 (MCP-1). The research-grade analog is built around the same CCL2 target and is intended to help investigators study CCL2-driven monocyte recruitment, chemokine neutralisation, and inflammatory or tumor-associated signaling in controlled settings. It is useful as a positive or reference control in binding and neutralisation assays, for in-vitro blockade of CCL2 activity, for characterising CCL2-CCR2 axis biology, and in preclinical model development. It is offered at low endotoxin levels (research grade typically under 1 EU/mg, with ultra-low options under 0.5 EU/mg) and in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities to support larger in-vitro screens, assay standardisation, and reproducible batch work. This material is not the clinical drug and is not intended for human or veterinary therapeutic use; it should be treated as a laboratory reagent for functional characterisation of the CCL2 target. CCL2 (C-C motif chemokine ligand 2), also known as monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), is a small secreted chemokine (UniProt P13500) that is a principal recruiter of monocytes, memory T cells, and dendritic cells to sites of inflammation. It signals primarily through the G-protein-coupled receptor CCR2, driving chemotaxis and transendothelial migration along a chemokine gradient. CCL2 is produced by many cell types, including monocytes, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and tumor cells, often in response to pro-inflammatory stimuli such as IL-1, TNF, and oxidative stress. Through the CCL2-CCR2 axis it contributes to a broad range of processes, including atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other chronic inflammatory conditions, and it supports recruitment of tumor-associated macrophages within the tumor microenvironment. Because of these roles, CCL2 is a well-studied target for anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor strategies aimed at interrupting myeloid cell trafficking.
