Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of omodenbamab, a fully human monoclonal antibody (IgG3, kappa light chain) directed against staphylococcal protein A (SpA), a surface virulence factor of Staphylococcus aureus. It is manufactured for research use only and is not the clinical drug; it is not intended for human or veterinary use. Built around the same SpA target specificity as the originator, it is useful as a defined, well-characterized binder for in-vitro and preclinical work: as a positive control or reference standard in SpA-detection and neutralization assays, for studying antibody-mediated blockade of SpA immune-evasion functions, for benchmarking anti-S. aureus antibody candidates, and for supporting assay development and format comparisons. The material is offered at research grade with low endotoxin (typically less than 1 EU/mg, with ultra-low-endotoxin lots at less than 0.5 EU/mg) and is available in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities to support scale-up, screening campaigns, and reproducible lot-to-lot experimentation. Because it reproduces the drug's binding activity without therapeutic intent, it functions as a consistent laboratory reagent rather than a medicine. Staphylococcal protein A (SpA) is a cell-wall-anchored surface protein of Staphylococcus aureus and a major immune-evasion virulence factor. Its N-terminal region comprises several highly homologous immunoglobulin-binding domains (classically designated E, D, A, B, C) that adopt a triple-helical fold. These domains bind two host targets: the Fc (constant) region of IgG, which allows the bacterium to coat itself in antibody in a non-opsonic, "wrong-way" orientation and blunt Fc-mediated phagocytosis; and the Fab region of VH3-clan B-cell receptors, acting as a B-cell superantigen that drives apoptotic collapse of responding B cells and impairs protective antibody responses. SpA is also released and can crosslink TNFR1. Antibodies that block SpA's Ig-binding activity restore normal opsonophagocytic clearance, making SpA an attractive target for anti-staphylococcal immunotherapy research.
