Background
This product is an unconjugated, non-therapeutic recombinant analog of basiliximab, supplied for research use only and not for human or veterinary use. Basiliximab targets CD25, the interleukin-2 receptor alpha chain (IL2RA), and the analog reproduces the target-binding specificity of the originator built around this antigen. It is offered as a research-grade reagent for functional and preclinical work: as a defined isotype-matched binding tool, a neutralization or receptor-blockade reagent, a positive control for CD25 detection assays, and a benchmarking standard when developing or characterizing anti-CD25 antibodies, ADCs, or bispecifics. The material is unmodified (no conjugate), enabling downstream labeling or format engineering by the end user. It is manufactured to low-endotoxin research specifications (typically <1 EU/mg research grade, with <0.5 EU/mg ultra-low options) and is available in bulk milligram-to-gram quantities suitable for repeated in-vitro experiments, assay standardization, and preclinical model work. It is not the clinical drug and carries no therapeutic claims. CD25 is the alpha chain of the interleukin-2 receptor (IL2RA, also called the Tac antigen or p55; UniProt P01589). On its own CD25 binds IL-2 with low affinity, but when it associates with the beta chain (IL2RB/CD122) and the common gamma chain (IL2RG/CD132) it forms the high-affinity trimeric IL-2 receptor that drives JAK-STAT5, PI3K, and MAPK signaling. CD25 is expressed transiently on activated conventional T and B cells and constitutively at high levels on regulatory T cells (Tregs), where sustained IL-2 signaling maintains FOXP3 expression and immune tolerance. Because CD25 marks recently activated effector lymphocytes, blocking IL-2 access to the high-affinity receptor dampens activation-driven proliferation. This biology underlies the interest in CD25 across transplantation, autoimmunity, and Treg/immuno-oncology research.
