Specificity
Anti-CD8 In Vivo Antibody - Low Endotoxin (UCHT-4) recognizes Human CD8. Anti-Human CD8 recognizes a T-cell glycoprotein cell surface complex (Mr 32 kDa) which defines the cytotoxic/suppressor population of mature T-lymphocytes. The CD8 complex interacts with class I MHC molecules resulting in increased adhesion between CD8+ T-lymphocytes and their target cells. Binding of the CD8 antigen to Class I MHC molecules enhances T-cell activation. The cytoplasmic portion of the CD8 antigen is associated with a protein tyrosine kinase (p56lck).

Background
CD8 marks cytotoxic T lymphocytes and serves as a co-receptor that stabilises engagement of MHC class I molecules during antigen recognition. Clone UCHT-4, a mouse IgG2a monoclonal antibody against human CD8, has been validated for flow cytometry, Western blot, immunoprecipitation, IHC, immunofluorescence, ELISA and functional assays. In vivo grade UCHT-4 is prepared in a low-endotoxin formulation and scaled from milligram (mg) to gram (g) quantities to meet the demands of bulk and high-throughput laboratories. Supplied for research use only (RUO) as a non-therapeutic reagent, it offers dependable performance for cytotoxic T-cell research.

Antigen Distribution
The CD8 antigen is expressed on approximately 19-48% of normal human peripheral blood lymphocytes and > 90% of normal thymocytes. It is also present on a subset of NK cells. Subjects infected with HIV have been shown to exhibit increased levels of CD8+ ly
